Call to learn more

It is amazing, but Christmas is almost upon us. Fast approaching, after it seems we just dressed our turkeys and stuffed ourselves. We hope the Holiday Season brings cheer to all the friends of The Aged Woman’s Home. We appreciate your support and interest in our mission—to provide housing at no charge to senior women in need—and look forward to your continued support.

We celebrated the beginning of the holiday season with visits from our local high school community service volunteers (Stone Ridge and Georgetown Prep) and ended our season with a visit and gifts from The Women of Christ Church Georgetown. Thank you to volunteers, James Cannon and Millie Groobey, from Christ Church, Georgetown (pictured) who delivered the gift bags. Guests were also lucky enough to be visited by a Secret Santa (Holy Trinity Church in Fairfax, Virginia) bearing individualized gift bags filled with a plethora of goodies including gloves and house slippers for all.

Much history has been seen on Christmas Day: Charlemagne was crowned on Christmas Day in the year 800, George Washington was seen crossing the Delaware Christmas Day, 1776; Christmas Day circa 1868 (2 months before the Home was founded) Andrew Johnson issued pardons for all soldiers who fought in the Civil War; and, who of a certain age, can forget the Apollo 8 spaceship hurtling around the earth on Christmas Day 1968. Our Aged Woman’s Home 2019 Christmas Day (and maybe yours) will be a bit more pedestrian than these illustrious Christmas Days of yore.

Our Guests will enjoy friends and family, a quiet day of reflection and church, and perhaps, a small gathering of food and cheer with each other. From all of us here at the Home—Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

This holiday season the Board of Directors mailed their holiday card that includes a request for your donation to either the Home’s restoration efforts or the personal needs of our Guests. Please consider joining us in our mission to house our elderly women in dignity. If you prefer, please go online to agedwomanshome.org to make a donation for the Guests or the restoration. Thank you for your support!
