On Sunday, November 19th at 1 p.m. the Aged Woman’s Home held their annual Thanksgiving Dinner with guests, Board members, volunteers, and several outside friends.
The annual feast included a turkey, ham, stuffing (3 kinds), potatoes (2 kinds) and numerous side dishes, some traditional (carrots) and some not so traditional (kale salad). Nancy Peterson from the Board made the delicious onion casserole, and sauerkraut found its way to the table to the delight of Carol Pulizzi, another Board member who always adds a German twist to her Thanksgiving table.
Special guests of Shirley Brewton, Ed and Margaret, long-time DC residents, graced us with their presence and Ed said grace for all the blessings we have all received in the last year. From the photos you will see our youngest guest, volunteer Lila, age 2 and a half, and our newest volunteer, Veronica, a student at nearby Georgetown Visitation school.
Last, but certainly not least dessert was supplied by weekend assistant Diedre Hickok (incredible beautiful blueberry cake with fantastic icing,), Sherry Doggett of Heroes Inc. (pumpkin pies) and Bob Marovelli, age 92 – the father of the chef (delicious apple pie with homemade crust and 1/3 the usual sugar). Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal and the good company. A special thanks to Erin, the Administrator, for preparing the bountiful meal.
