Summer is waning after a long and bountiful garden season. Here in DC, we weathered a historic heat wave (or two), but now the jet stream is nosing its way southward and has done us the favor of sending some cooler weather and gorgeous days our way.

Our Garden Club members are changing guard as well. Linda Derrick is passing the President’s torch to Donna Foster. Both Linda and Donna are longtime members of The Town and Country Garden Club and have held the position of President in previous terms. Thank you, Linda, for your leadership and efforts on the Home’s behalf.
Sue Gale, our wonderful Garden Club liaison, is sadly going to be leaving us as she moves on to the next adventure. Sue, her group of volunteers and her master gardener husband, James Gale (whose expansive knowledge of gardening and capacity to weed-whack is truly amazing!) have done yeoman’s work planning, planting, cleaning and guiding our on-site gardening efforts. Thank you, Sue. We couldn’t have done it without you and all of the Garden Club Members. We welcome Gail Wilkins, another long-time Garden Club member, as the new liaison to the Home.
In other news, several of the Home’s Guests were excited to see Disney’s production of Aladdin at the Kennedy Center. Our newest volunteer, 4-year-old Lyla Mae, attended and made it an even more special day. Our review: a great show!
