Thanksgiving Dinner at the Home was indeed sumptuous, complete with welcome visitors as well as delicious morsels. A Guest’s grandson gave out hugs all around, and a granddaughter in colorful pigtails shared a delightful assessment of what tasted best (the cookies of course).

Our meal was organized by Staff member Judy Robinson (thank you Judy!) and was resplendent with classic Thanksgiving fare: turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, rolls, and a bit of ham and coleslaw snuck in. Our cranberry sauce was homemade with a touch of brown sugar, orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla to complement the tartness of the cranberries. There was a second cranberry sauce with maple syrup as the sweetener, but the former won the day. For the finale, (in addition to cookies) we enjoyed both apple and blueberry pies.
JB, one of our previous Guests who left for the greener pastures of her own senior apartment, also joined us. Everyone was happy to see her again, and, not to be outdone, she regaled us with tales of her 3-year-old great-grandson, whom photos proved is her look-alike.
It is only through the kind and generous support of the many Friends of the Aged Woman’s Home that we are able to provide holiday meals and a sense of community here at the Home. As William Shakespeare’s Balthazar said, in a Comedy of Errors, “Small cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast.”
